City of Casey Online Feedback Clinic: Memoir

Please note: this is a partnership event with Casey Cardinia Libraries and is only available for residents living in the City of Casey.

Writing is solitary work, and sharing drafts with friends and family can be scary. Enter: the online feedback clinic! In this online course, participants will submit a memoir or creative nonfiction piece of up to 1,500 words each month for four months and work towards a refined draft. You will receive individual feedback from your tutor, focusing on elements including plot, character, style and voice. Participants are highly encouraged to comment on each other’s work. This clinic is ideal for beginner and emerging writers.

This online course actively encourages sharing of your work with your cohort as well as with the tutor.

The online forum for this clinic will open on 23 August. Registration for the clinic will close at 12pm on 23 August and the first deadline is 11.55pm on 30 August.

Pieces of up to 1,500 words due 30 August, 27 September, 25 October, and 22 November.

Our Online Feedback Clinics are asynchronous, with no face-to-face meetings, allowing you to engage with the content at the times of day and week that suit your schedule. They are hosted on our private Wordpress server. There will be an optional Zoom introduction to the clinic website for those less confident with technology, which will be recorded for those who cannot attend live. About the Tutor:

Clem Bastow is a cultural critic, screenwriter and author whose debut book, Late Bloomer (Hardie Grant Books) was published in 2021. Their work appears regularly in The Guardian and The Saturday Paper, and they have contributed chapters to numerous books including Investigating Stranger Things (Palgrave MacMillan, 2021) and ReFocus: The Films Of Elaine May (EUP, 2019). She has taught screenwriting at University of Melbourne and short story at RMIT.
