City of Casey Online Feedback Clinic: Poetry with Saaro Umar

Please note: this is a partnership event with Connected Libraries and is only available for residents living in the City of Casey.

In this online feedback clinic, you’ll submit drafts of poems and receive feedback from your peers and tutor Saaro Umar.

You’ll form a supportive community and learn to look closely at language, transforming your rough drafts into poems that sparkle.

This online course actively encourages sharing of your work with your cohort as well as with the tutor.

The online forum for this clinic will open on 18 June. Registration for the clinic will close at 12pm on 18 June and the first deadline is 11.55pm on 25 June.

Monthly Submissions:

• Round 1 – up to 80 lines. Due 25 June 
• Round 2 – up to 80 lines. Due 30 July
• Round 3 – up to 80 lines. Due 27 August

Our Online Feedback Clinics are asynchronous, with no face-to-face meetings, allowing you to engage with the content at the times of day and week that suit your schedule. They are hosted on our private Wordpress server. There will be an optional Zoom introduction to the clinic website for those less confident with technology, which will be recorded for those who cannot attend live. You Will Learn:

• introspection around a poetic practice / what is poetry / what it can be(!); 
• close reading poetry / what is important (to me, to you) in a poem:
• gathering seeds / generating ideas for writing;
• writing poetry from these seeds (together!);
• introspection around developing an ongoing practice / process.

About the Tutor:

Saaro Umar is a writer, support worker and herbalist. Her work has been published widely.
