Clinic Workshop: Finding Your Process – Writing and Rewriting a Poem

Date:

With:

Elena Gomez

Rating:

ALL

Summary:

Often, the scariest part of writing a poem is putting something on the page. In this workshop, which can be taken independently or as an introduction to the Online Poetry Clinic, we'll use exercises, prompts and discussion to assist with finding new ways to conjure poems, regardless of whether you’re completely new to poetry or looking for some poetic revitalisation.

This season, Writers Victoria’s Online Feedback Clinics have been reimagined, making them more flexible for participants. For the full experience, you can sign up for a workshop to get started and meet your tutor before you submit work for feedback from the tutor and your peers across a three-month period via our online forum. If you’d prefer to just dip a toe into the clinics, you can sign up for a one-day workshop; if you’re more confident in your drafting skills, you can opt, instead, to focus solely on the feedback rounds. This page is for those who wish to register for the workshop only.

For more information on our online feedback clinics, please read our FAQs

You Will Learn:

  • Useful exercises and approaches to drafting poems
  • How to give and receive feedback on poetry
  • How to use feedback to move your writing from drafts to finished poems
  • The value of deadlines in developing work
  • Considerations for your own poetic voice and aesthetic

About the Tutor:

Elena Gomez is a poet and editor living on unceded Wurundjeri country. She is the author of Admit the Joyous Passion of Revolt and Body of Work. She has facilitated workshops for Express Media and Queensland Poetry Festival and is a PhD candidate in Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne.
