How do I overcome writers’ block?

There are plenty of writing exercises to help overcome writer’s block but it’s a matter of trial and error to find the process that works best for you. On our website we have a number of writing tips and tools as well as writing workouts.

There are a number of other proactive steps you can take to get your writing flowing…

Joining a writer’s group is a great way to meet like-minded writers, share tips for overcoming writer’s block, have your work appraised and discover publishing opportunities. You can find a list of some Victorian writing groups on our website.

You may also wish to consider taking one of the workshops or courses on offer here at Writers Victoria or any number of TAFE, University or Adult Education Centres around the state.

Make sure you attend lots of writer’s talks, book launches and writers’ festivals to get inspired, motivated and feel connected to the industry.

And if you’re stuck on a particular aspect of your writing, you can always take part in our mentorship program or our manuscript assessment service.
