Creative Forms of Life Writing

Join André Dao in this full day course about life writing.

From oral history through family biography to autofiction, this course will cover a series of techniques for writing from lived experiences – both your own and others’. Key questions for the course include: how do we honour someone’s testimony? How do we write about life in all its complex entanglement? The workshop will include discussion of the ethics, challenges and rewards of life writing, as well as practical exercises focused on preparing for and conducting interviews.

About the Tutor

Andre is looking seriously but calmly at the camera.

André Dao is a writer, editor, researcher and artist. His debut novel, Anam, won the 2021 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for an Unpublished Manuscript. He is also the co-founder of Behind the Wire, an oral history project documenting people’s experience of immigration detention, and a producer of the Walkley-award winning podcast, The Messenger.
