Participants will learn how to create their own characters in words and pictures. They will be guided through the process of developing an idea or ideas into a picture story book.

Through these exercises in writing and drawing, participants will develop a sense of their own voice or style.

You will learn

  • how to create a character or characters
  • basic drawing techniques
  • finding your own ‘voice’
  • what to put in and what to leave out
  • telling a story in both words and pictures

About Leigh Hobbs

Leigh Hobbs is an artist, author and The Australian Children’s Laureate for 2016/2017. He has written 21 books featuring his characters Old Tom, Mr Chicken, Fiona the Pig, The FREAKS in 4F, Mr Badger and Horrible Harriet. Adapted for television and the stage here and overseas, Leigh’s family of somewhat subversive characters have now a life of their own.
