Considering a career in editing? Explore the work editors do today, illuminate editing processes and learn the key tools, techniques and tricks of the trade.

Refresh your grammar and punctuation, and improve your ability to copyedit and proofread at a line level. Emerge with a swag of new skills and knowing what your next steps might be.

You will learn

  • how editing fits within the publishing process and what editors do
  • what house style is and how to use style sheets
  • how to edit for clear, concise and readable prose
  • how to spot and fix common errors
  • how to edit onscreen and use conventional symbols when proofreading

This workshop develops employment-related skills.

About Penny Johnson

Penny Johnson is a writer, award-winning educator, and accredited editor. She has worked on literary and academic journals, and writes the Nitpicker quiz for ‘The Victorian Writer’. Penny has been an editing teacher for more than 15 years and is a co-director of the Writers Immersion and Cultural Exchange program (WrICE). She manages RMIT’s Professional Writing and Editing programs.
