The Whitsundays Writers Festival is thrilled to introduce the inaugural Whitsundays Literary Heart Awards.
The Heart Awards stand as an example of recognition, casting a spotlight on the talent within our literary community and providing a platform for emerging voices to display their works. We invite you to join us in this exciting journey, where the beating heart of storytelling takes centre stage.
In 2024, we invite you to showcase your literary prowess and vie for recognition in the following categories:
- The Gloria Burley Award for Best Unpublished Manuscript: Honouring the festival’s esteemed founder, Gloria Burley, this award celebrates outstanding unpublished manuscripts. First Prize receives $2,500 and Runner-Up $1,000. Submissions close 30 April.
- Best Published Book Cover Design Award: Recognising excellence in book cover design across various formats, including paperbacks, digital, and audio books. First Prize receives $1,500 and Runner-Up $500. Submissions close 10 July.
- Best Short Story Award: Embrace the art of storytelling with this award, available in two divisions: adult and under 18. First Prize for both divisions receive $1,000 and Runners-Up $500. Submissions close 31 May.
- Poetry Prize: Unleash your creativity and poetic flair with this prestigious prize, awarded for originality, creativity, and expressiveness. First Prize receives $1,000 and Runner-Up $500. Submissions close 31 May.
