Learn how to develop an essay and other forms of non-fiction writing from initial ideas to re-drafting and research. The course will cover basic structure, different styles of essay and non-fiction writing, editing your own work as well as research techniques. Topics covered will include different styles within essay and non-fiction writing as well as hybrid and experimental forms.Details
This workshop will take place online and will be recorded, with the recording sent to registered participants afterward. Detailed instructions for participation will be provided in the week preceding the event.
You Will Learn:
- A range of essay structures
- To edit and re-draft your work
- Research and ethics considerations
- The differences between non-fiction styles (reviews, personal essays, memoir, opinion pieces, long form journalism, lyrical/narrative non-fiction essays)
- Routes into more experimental non-fiction writing
About the Tutor:
Timmah Ball is a writer and zine maker of Ballardong Noongar heritage. Previous zines and micro publications include Wild Tongue in collaboration with Loving Feminist Literature for Melbourne Fringe (2016), Wild Tongue Vol. 2 in collaboration with Azja Kulpinska for Next Wave Festival (2018) and Do Planners Dream of Electric Trees? (2021) created through Arts House Makeshift Publics residency. She is currently developing a new zine/DIY publication called Class Wars in the Airport Lounge.
