Summary:
Do you love bushwalking, camping or even just sitting in a park listening to the birds? You can bring as little or as much environmental knowledge as you have to this workshop, and that will be exactly the right amount. This seminar is for those with a favourite place, a captivating flower or an appealing animal to capture in words or for environmental advocates looking to make writing more lyrical and engaging – all you need is a sense of wonder and a willingness to put this on the page.

You Will Learn:
- close and mindful observation of the world around you
- how the most unexpected things can be inspiration for writing
- effective use of emotion, and the importance of story in your connection to nature
- how to develop your own style and not be constrained by traditional ‘nature writing’
- how to merge environmental knowledge with creative writing
About the Tutor:
Jessica Obersby is an emerging writer who believes in the power of stories to change people’s lives. Her work in progress is YA speculative fiction that has a protagonist with mental illness. Jessica is a graduate of the RMIT Professional Writing and Editing degree and in 2019 was a recipient of a Writers Victoria Writeability Fellowship. She is currently studying Environmental Science and rescued animals outnumber humans in her household 12 to two! Jessica is Writeability Program Manager at Writers Victoria.
