This class explores how to write heroes and villains in young adult fiction, with an emphasis on fantasy and science fiction. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create characters and character premises that will drive your novel, use the hero’s journey structure to craft satisfying plot twists and use character to generate ideas and solve story problems.

About the Tutor:

Vanessa Len is a Melbourne author and educational editor. Her first novel, Only a Monster, is a young adult fantasy about a monster girl whose summer is ruined when her new crush turns out to be a monster slayer. It was published in 2022 by Allen & Unwin and is being translated into 14 languages. The sequel, Never a Hero, is forthcoming in 2023.
