The Neilma Sidney Literary Travel Fund recognises the unique value of travel in the development of writing and literary careers.
There is little more than 1 week left to submit your application for Round 13 of the Neilma Sidney Literary Travel Fund before it closes on Sunday 23 March, 11:59pm AEDT.
Applicants can apply for grants between $2,000 and $10,000. These grants support professional development through travel.
The fund provides access to professional development for emerging, mid-career and established Australian writers and literary sector workers. To help you prepare your application we’re sharing answers to some frequently asked questions.
What do you mean by ’emerging’?
This opportunity is for writers and literary sector workers who can demonstrate a publication history and/or employment or professional engagement within the literary industry.
What do you mean ‘literary sector workers’?
Anyone with a direct connection to Australia’s literary sector is able to apply.
This includes fiction writers, poets, memoirists, journalists, aural storytellers, people who write for performance as well as editors, agents, publishers, librarians, booksellers and staff members of literary organisations.
I’ve been awarded funding in a previous round. Can I apply again?
Yes. However, preference will be given to writers who haven’t previously received a Neilma Sidney Literary Travel Fund grant.
Can I submit a joint application for funding?
Yes. Joint applications for collaborative travel projects are eligible for funding and are subject to the same $10,000 maximum grant request as individual projects.
Do I have to be based in Victoria?
No, this is a national opportunity.
Can I apply for access / interpreter / support worker costs?
Yes, you can include access costs in your budget.
Applications close Sunday 23 March, 11:59PM (AEDT). Learn more about the Fund and how to apply here.
