Which publishers can I submit my work to?

The following is a non-exhaustive list of publishers in Australia that may consider your work for publication. Because Australian publishers each have their own submissions process and their own schedules for when submissions are open, we recommend reading their submission information carefully and making sure you are following their instructions.

Affirm Press
An independent Melbourne-based publisher dedicated to publishing great Australian stories, big ideas, and engaging local and international authors. They publish a broad range of non-fiction books and a select list of fiction.

Allen & Unwin
Allen & Unwin is Australia’s leading independent publisher and is the 2020 Publisher of the Year. The Friday Pitch allows for writers of all genres to have their work considered by one of their in-house Submission Editors.

Bad Apple Press
Specialises in telling great stories by Australian authors. Bad Apple Press consider all non-fiction topics but special interests are: memoir, family relationships, biographies, humour, health and fitness, lifestyle and psychology, by local authors.

Ginninderra Press
Ginninderra Press is an award-winning independent publisher based in Port Adelaide. They are an independent publisher set up to provide opportunities for new and emerging authors, and authors writing in unfashionable genres or on non-mainstream subjects. They publish poetry chapbooks under the Pocket Poets and Picaro Poets imprints, and run ‘The Crow’, a poetry journal published in June and December each year.

HarperCollins
While HarperCollins only considers material submitted by literary agents, they do accept entries to the Banjo Prize. HarperCollins publishes fiction (commercial, literary, science fiction and fantasy) and general nonfiction, including biography/autobiography, memoir, history, health/wellness, sport, politics, culture, lifestyle, cookery and humour.

Scribe has been operating as a wholly independent trade-publishing house for more than 40 years, in two locations — Melbourne, Australia and London, England. They accept unsolicited and un-agented submissions in a three week window, in 2021: 1 April through to 21 April; and 1 September through to 21 September.

Ultimo Press is an independent publisher established in 2020 with the simple ambition to become home to Australia’s best storytellers; they accept submissions of general literary fiction and nonfiction.
