Writers Victoria is guided by a volunteer Board, the majority of which is elected from and by our membership.
Like many arts orgs in Australia, WV finds itself at a critical juncture. We are working hard to remain viable despite the challenges posed by rising costs of living and recent defunding of the arts.
An active and engaged community is critical to our livelihood and we thank you for your interest in a Board member role.
Two (2) positions on the Board will be declared vacant at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held via Zoom on Tuesday 30 June 2026.
To nominate yourself for a position on the Board, please download and complete a Board Nomination Form (Word document) and return it via email to: [email protected].
Please email your nomination form in Word or PDF format from the email address we have on your membership record.
If you have any difficulty uploading the Board Nomination Form into an email, we can accept your nomination details in text form in the body of an email or, alternatively, contact Memberships on (03) 9917 5684.
You may also like to attend an online information session hosted by our Board ChairJanice Gobey on Tuesday 23 June from 5.30 pm to 6 pm. Register for this session via our website here. Registrations close at midday on the day of the session.
First Peoples members and members with experience in First People’s knowledge and culture, the arts sector, the publishing industry, philanthropy and fundraising are particularly encouraged to apply.
Before nominating, please read the Board Positions Guidelines.
Please note the following when nominating yourself for the Writers Victoria Board:
– Only people who have been financial members of WV for more than 30 business days prior to the AGM may nominate as candidates (19 May 2026).
– You do not need to ask another member to nominate you.
– Board meetings take place monthly and require some reading and preparation in advance.
– Board members also receive actions to follow up on outside of Board meetings.
– The total time commitment for Board members averages eight to 10 hours per month.
Please enclose a short biography (up to 150 words) and a brief statement to support your nomination (including why you wish to join the Board and what you think you could contribute).
Nominations must be received no later than 5pm (AEDT) on Tuesday 16 June 2026. During the AGM, you will have 90 seconds to speak in support of your nomination. If you are unable to attend the AGM, a statement can be read on your behalf.
If successful, you will be expected to:
– Attend up to 12 evening Board meetings per year either online or in personÂ
– Attend other ad hoc meetings and planning days
– Contribute your time and expertise in-between meetings (average approximately 6–8 hours per month)
– Support our fundraising efforts
– Act as an ambassador for Writers Victoria
Provisions can be made for regional members and access requirements.
