We were shocked to hear the news that our friends and collaborators at Writing NSW are set to lose their ongoing state government funding at the end of this year, as part of a decision by Create NSW to grant just 5% of long-term arts funding to literature. This decision leaves Writing NSW at risk of being unable to continue their work past the end of this year, when their current contract expires. Our board has written to Writing NSW to share our dismay at this decision and to express our concerns regarding the impact of this decision on our national writing community, particularly at a time when so many arts organisations and practitioners are struggling with the challenges thrown at them by COVID-19.
