Dawn of Covid

2020 Write-ability Fellow David Maney is a performer and arts facilitator, with a focus on inclusive practice. He’s currently writing ‘Into the Fog’, a mystery novella/podcast set in rural Australia. He lives in West Brunswick, land of the Woi wurrung people, with three housemates, two dogs and a socially distant cat.

During his fellowship, David will be working with The Garret Podcast’s Astrid Edwards, to develop his serialised podcast Into The Fog, a mystery novella/podcast set in rural Australia. Into The Fog explores disability and the sensual body, the Australian country/city divide, and how memory embeds itself in place. For David, the fellowship offers validation and encouragement to keep writing and practising his art through difficult times. He says, “To be seen by the judges as a writer with something worth reading encourages me to write something worth saying. I can’t wait to work with my mentor, Astrid Edwards, and get under the bonnet of how to put together a podcast.”

David’s story Dawn of Covid, appeared in The Victorian Writer June–September issue – ‘Sense and Sensibilities’. To listen to the audio edition, click here.
