Fernhill Writers’ Group is a casual, vibrant writing group based at Arrabri Community House in Bayswater dedicated to the enjoyment of writing.
Writers of any age, level and genre are welcome to join us for one or all of our sessions.
We provide two types of sessions; a short story/poetry session and a novel development session.
Fernhill Flashers meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, from 7:30 -9:30pm between the end of January and mid-December.
The format of our evening is reading and discussion of short stories, memoirs and poetry prepared by attending members.
We focus on writing craft, what engages us as readers and what areas need development.
The Fernhill Noveleers meet on the Wednesday of the week between the Fernhill Flashers meeting, from 7:30 – 9:30pm between the end of January and mid-December.
Attending members submit a chapter of their novel-in-progress ten days before the meeting. The chapters are distributed to the novel group to read at leisure and compile feedback.Â
On meeting night each member introduces their chapter with a summary of what they were trying to achieve.Â
A very supportive discussion takes place about whether those intentions were met and how the story can be strengthened.Â
All attendees benefit from this process because they learn to recognise strong and weak writing craft allowing their own work to improve in a natural and informed way.Â
Individual written feedback is distributed to each author after the meeting.
Members are permitted to attend either or both session types.
If you are interested in coming along, please email David at [email protected].
