Writeability Goes Online

A national creative writing program for writers and storytellers with disability.

Writers Victoria is delighted to announce Writeability Goes Online. Funded by Creative Australia, this program aims to reach writers and storytellers with disability from across Australia who, due to the place they live, or their access needs, have limited opportunities to meet other writers, or take part in professional development in their craft.

Writeability Goes Online is a series of free writing workshops and author talks developed by Writers Victoria and funded by Creative Australia. The program is specifically developed for writers and aspiring writers with disability.

Own Voices Forum

Interested writers and storytellers, as well as support workers and carers for people with disability, and staff from local government, libraries, arts and disability organisations are invited to attend our Own Voices Forum via Zoom on Thursday 1 February 2024, 10am–3pm. to learn more about the program. The Forum also provides free professional development on the Social Model of Disability and best practice language for support workers, carers, and organisations. You can register for the forum here.

Monthly writers group

Places are  limited for Writeability Goes Online: 16 writers can take part, and we are seeking to support writers across Australia who, due to remoteness or for access reasons, would particularly benefit from this online program. For this reason, we are seeking expressions of interest for the program. You can register your interest via Submittable here. Expressions of interest close 10am, Monday 11 December 2024.

Following the forum, Local Mentor Ruby Hillsmith will lead a monthly writers group online. The writers group will meet via Zoom between February and August 2024.

How could a Writers Victoria membership benefit you?

Writers Victoria is a membership organisation. One of the benefits of being a Writers Victoria member is getting access to member-only activities and exclusive online content.

Writers Victoria membership also brings other benefits. You’ll get discounts on courses, information about competitions and opportunities, writing resources and inspiration through our weekly enews, ‘The Victorian Writer’ magazine and members-only sections of our website.

Membership will also connect you with more than 3,000 writers across Victoria and help you feel part of our state’s writing community.

We know that some people may find it hard to pay the membership fee. That’s why we offer a 30% discount on our annual regional membership, reducing the cost to $35 for Writeability participants. We can discuss payment plans as well.

Speak to your local mentor for more info, or email Writeability staff.
