2022 Grace Marion Wilson Emerging Writers Competition Now Open

GMW Emerging Writers Competition 2022

Writers Victoria, with the generous support of the Grace Marion Wilson Fund, are delighted to open applications for the 2022 Grace Marion Wilson Emerging Writers Competition. Following a brief hiatus in 2021, we are excited to be able to run this valued competition once again and to highlight the work of outstanding emerging Victorian Writers.

Now in its thirteenth year, the competition aims to support and profile emerging Victorian writers by awarding them a cash prize and publishing their work in our magazine The Victorian Writer. The competition accepts entries in the categories of short story and creative non-fiction from Victorian writers with no more than three stories or articles published in a recognised book, magazine, or journal.

We are also thrilled that this year, we have Melissa Manning and Wayne Marshall (fiction) and Eda Gunaydin (non-fiction) as our judges.

Winners of each category receive a $1,000 cash prize, with second prizes of $250 awarded to one runner-up in each category. One entry will also be awarded the Regional Writer Award, worth $500. All winners and runners-up will be published in an upcoming edition of The Victorian Writer magazine.

Submissions are open now until 13 July 2022, with winners and runners-up to be announced on 4 August 2022.
