It’s with great pleasure that we’d like to introduce our Regional Digital Resident, Emma Andrews.
Emma started her residency this week and will be with us until mid-September. In that time, she’ll produce Q&As with five of our tutors. She’ll also write a piece of fiction, which we’ll publish on the website in September.
For Emma, the residency is a rare chance to be on the inside of the literary world. She says, ‘Fledging writers feel themselves to be on the outside’, but that each Q&A will be like a ‘mini-mentorship with a different type of established writer’. What’s more, ‘It will be fascinating to turn the encounter into something that someone will read,’ she says. The opportunity to work with Writers Victoria is ‘a gift’.
Welcome, Emma Andrews!
Bio
Emma Andrews is an emerging Melbourne-based writer whose work explores memory, identity, and the shifting architectures that shape a sense of self. She is particularly interested in the relationship between the body and memory, and the ways identity is constructed, performed, and, at times, undone.
She is currently working on the second draft of her memoir, The Pause, alongside a series of short stories. Her work has been shortlisted for the Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Writing.
I consider myself an ambassador for Writers Victoria, supporting an extremely important organisation and resource for writers. Interviewing authors about their work is one of the aspects of the residency that most drew me to the opportunity. It offers a way to bring writers’ practices, experiences and personal stories into clearer view and to have that shared more widely. Through the residency, I hope to deepen engagement across the writing community while continuing to refine my own process, voice, and style.
