Writers Victoria’s in-house magazine, The Victorian Writer, welcomes submissions from both members and non-members writing short fiction and non-fiction, poetry, and articles on the craft and business of writing.
If you would like to be considered for print publication, you can submit either a 100-word pitch with an article idea or your full story, article, or poetry, and a short author bio to Submittable by an issue’s deadline date. If no upcoming editions are listed, we will accept general non-themed submissions. All submissions are to be made via Submittable.
If you are successful in your pitch, our commissioning editor will be in touch to discuss editing, licence agreements and final copy deadlines.
We strongly advise you to read the most recent issues of The Victorian Writer to acquaint yourself with the kinds of articles we publish. Members receive The Victorian Writer in either print or digital format, depending on their membership type (please get in touch with us if you’re a member and would like to access past editions). Non-members can purchase past editions from our online shop.
We publish poems ($70), and articles of 600 words ($100) and 1200 words ($200) in the print edition with particular interest in the craft of writing and the writing life.
We particularly encourage member contributions and member pitches will be considered for both print and online publication. Extracts from member publications including fiction and memoir can also be submitted.
Please note, online article fees will be negotiated with the Writers Victoria team and there are no fees payable for book extracts or promotional material.
While we aim to publish as much as we can and support writers, we receive many more submissions than we can place, and can’t provide feedback on all pitches. But don’t be deterred! Keep submitting for following editions.
All deadlines for our 2022 themes have now passed. Please keep an eye out for the announcement of our 2023 themes and submission deadlines.
