Does the idea of sharing your poetry with an audience fill you with a mixture of excitement and dread? As part of the annual Writers Victoria Subscriber-thon, The Salon will be hosting an evening of poetry. The reading is free and open to all to enter, providing a perfect foray into performance for writers hesitant to take to the stage.

Many thanks to everyone who completed our annual member surveys earlier this year.

We use the surveys to support and improve the work that we do, develop new project ideas, and make sure our program is responding to the needs of our members and writing community.

Thanks to a recent donation, Writers Victoria is running a series of professional development opportunities for women writers of colour and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women over the next year. The first round of bursaries and commissions have been awarded to six applicants.

I am pleased to announce that Angela Savage has been appointed the new Director of Writers Victoria.

Welcome to our monthly brag about our Writers Victoria community members who have won awards, been shortlisted or longlisted for writing prizes or received industry recognition.

As Chair of Writers Victoria, I wanted to write to all our members to keep you informed about our current recruitment process.

Here are the 22 recent-release books by Austrlain authors - some are exciting new debuts and some are from award-winning and very well known writers!

Five people will win a set of all 22 books as part of our 2017 Subscriber-thon. They are great mix of literary fiction, non-fiction, short stories, memoir and poetry. To read our Q&A with the author click on the author's name. To read more about the book, click on the book's title.

Memoir, poetry, spoken word and young adult fiction are among the works to earn their authors 2017 Write-ability Fellowships.

Since 2007, Writers Victoria has offered writers the use of a Glenfern writers’ studio for a period of three months, thanks to the support of the Readings Foundation (from 2007 to 2014) and the Grace Marion Wilson Trust (since 2009).

The Fellowships give authors the time and space to write, as well as the opportunity to be involved in a vibrant community of writers in the historic surroundings of the Glenfern mansion in St Kilda East.

Writers Victoria is thrilled to announce the finalists of the 2017 Grace Marion Wilson Emerging Writers Competitions.

In the Fiction category, of which there were over 100 entries, judges Mark Brandi and Michelle Scott Tucker were impressed by the high quality of the submissions, reporting that they saw "a diversity of form, content, and genre."
