Welcome to our monthly brag about our Writers Victoria community members who have won awards, been shortlisted or longlisted for writing prizes or received industry recognition.

Collective celebrations

Lifted Brow Experimental Non-Fiction Prize longlist:

From 375 entries for the prize this year, two members made it onto the longlist.

  • ‘Trouble With Pork Chops’, by Phillip Davidson
  • ‘But Still…’, by Sam van Zweden.

2016 Richell Prize longlist:

Two of our members featured in the list of 19 writers whose unpublished manuscripts were longlisted for this year’s award:

  • ‘Gardens of Stone’ by Susie Thatcher
  • ‘From There to Here’ by Edita Mujkic

Five writers with disability will receive professional development opportunities at Writers Victoria through the fourth annual Write-ability Fellowships. Amongst the fellowship winners was member Kate Barry.

Individual celebrations

Karen McKnight, member, was announced as 'Overland' magazine's inaugural Writer-in-Residence recipient

Mark Brandi, member, has been shortlisted for the UK Crime Writers’ Association (CWA) 2016 Dagger awards in the Debut Dagger category for unpublished writers for his manuscript ‘Wimmera’.

Australian Publishers Association (APA) has announced the shortlists for the 2016 Educational Publishing Awards Australia. In the Secondary Student Resource—Junior—Mathematics/Science category member Carole Wilkinson was shortlisted for Atmospheric: The Burning Story of Climate Change.

Sean O'Leary, member, was announced as the winner of Busybird Publishing’s Great Novella Search 2016 with his novella 'Drifting', which will be published by them in 2017.
