New Coronavirus (COVID-19) Restrictions

Dear Writers Victoria community,

As you are no doubt aware, the Victorian Government has announced new coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions and we are committed to safe practices for our staff, members and wider community.

The restrictions have been introduced after a Hotel Quarantine worker at the Grand Hyatt Hotel tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19).

As of 11:59pm on 3 February 2021 new state-wide restrictions are in effect:

  • Face masks must be worn when in indoor spaces (other than private residences), on public transport, and in commercial passenger vehicles, apart from when eating or drinking, unless a lawful reason not to wear one applies. Masks are strongly recommended in the home if people other than your immediate household are present.
  • The 75% ‘return to work’ cap in both public and private sectors scheduled for Monday 8 February has been paused and the current cap of 50% will remain in place.
  • The limit on the number of people gathering in a household is reduced from 30 to 15, meaning the household members plus 15 visitors (excluding children under 12 months of age).
  • Please visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au to keep up to date with the latest developments and the list of exposure sites.

It’s critical that every venue, business and organisation continues to operate in a COVIDSafe way to help protect our community. Recent outbreaks have highlighted the importance of contact tracing in stopping the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). You are strongly encouraged to use QR codes to support contact tracing, rather than a manual record keeping system.

Please note that Writers Victoria’s offices are not currently open to the general public, and if you do need to visit our offices for any reason, this must be pre-arranged with staff (please email the relevant staff member to organise this). Casual visits and drop-ins are unable to be made.

For those who have pre-arranged a visit to our premises (via a staff member, or for a workshop booking) you will be required to sign in via a QR code, fill out a form on arrival, and must wear a mask at all times.

More information is available at coronavirus.vic.gov.au.

Please help Victoria to Stay Safe and Stay Open.
