Congratulations to these Writers Victoria members on their recent writing milestones! From new book releases to prizes and awards, fellowships to residencies, publications to honourable mentions and beyond, we are thrilled to celebrate the achievements of our members!

Alison Pouliot’s book The Allure of Fungi (CSIROI Publishing) has been released as an audiobook. A preview is available via YouTube here. Pouliot‘s new book Funga Obscura (NewSouth) will be published on 1 March. All are welcome to the launch on Friday 14 March.

Andrea Barton’s latest novel A Killer Among Friends (Wings ePress) is out now and is the second book in the Jade Riley Mysteries.

Angela Costi’s poetry book, The Heart of the Advocate (Liquid Amber Press) is available for pre-order ahead of publication in March.

Daan Spijer’s short story ‘Brucedale’ was highly commended in the 2024 Stringybark Times Past Award and published in Small Things (Stringybark Publishing).

Eda Sofia Correa Bernini’s debut novel Sed (Comma Ediciones), written a decade ago, is out now!

Eugen Bacon has been awarded the 2024 Otherwise Fellowship, together with comic artist Mars Lauderbaugh. The fellowship will support Eugen’s newest collection of short stories, Black DingoAfro-Centered Futurisms in Our Speculative Fiction (Bloomsbury Academic) edited by Bacon is on the Locus Awards Recommended Reading List. It has also been longlisted in the British Science Fiction Association (BSFA) Awards, and also has four chapter essays on the awards list. Eugen’s collection A Place Between Waking and Forgetting (Raw Dog Screaming Press) as well as two stories and an essay titled ‘The Writer as an Agent of Change’ have also been included on the BSFA longlist. 

James Le Bas’ book Beyond Bipolar: Ancient Realms New Directions is available now.

Julie Bowen Kearney’s debut novel The Horse-Lover’s Wife will be released in the new year, with a launch at Avid Reader Bookshop on 2 March at 2pm.

Kylie Ladd’s seventh novel, The Mix-Up, is published by Penguin Random House on 4 February.

Liza Dezfouli’s short story ‘Baby Bird’ was published in Issue 17 of dScribe (Desire Lines) and awarded the Darebin Mayor’s Writing Award for 2024.

Lyn O’Grady’s book Keeping our Kids Hopeful: Parenting Children During Times of Uncertainty (Amba Press) was published at the end of 2024.

Maryrose Cuskelly’s second novel The Campers (Allen & Unwin) will be published on 4 February 2025.

Paul Flavel’s self-published book John Martin’s is now available in multiple libraries and bookstores across South Australia and in Readings in Victoria. 

Pauline Wilson’s third self-published novel Family & Fortune will be released on 12 March. This work of historical fiction was inspired by Pauline’s Great Great Great Grandmother, Mary Ann.

Rebecca Fraser’s new junior fiction novel Skippy Blackfeet (Wombat Books) will be launched at Readings Kids bookstore Carlton on 16 March at 2pm. Free, but bookings essential. 

Sam Elkin’s book Detachable Penis (Upswell) was shortlisted for the John Clarke Award for Humour in the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards.

Yvonne Fein was awarded first place in Gutsy Great Novelists’ 2024 Page One Prize for her work-in-progress The Wheel in the Sky. You can read Yvonne’s winning extract here. Fein’s short story ‘Both Sides‘ has been published in Volume 5 (Summer) of Wordswell.
