Thanks to a donation, Writers Victoria is running a series of professional development opportunities for women writers of colour and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women this year.
The program aims to reduce barriers and increase publication and professional development opportunities for women of colour and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in Victoria.
It will include paid commissions, bursaries to attend a range of Writers Victoria courses, and a free training session for established writers on how to run writing workshops.
The final round of opportunities will close in June (details below).
Women Writers of Colour Bursaries
Two writers will receive bursaries to attend workshops or events in the Writers Victoria Season 2 program (to the value of $150 per person).
To apply, send a statement (of no more than 300 words) about you, how you intend to use the bursary, and what it would mean for your writing by 10am on Friday 29 June.

Women Writers of Colour Commissions
Two writers will receive paid commissions for new pieces of work to be published in The Victorian Writer magazine (to the value of $200 per person).
Submissions must align with one of our upcoming themes, which are:
- August-September: Non-fiction – your non-fiction peices, or writing about writing non-fiction.
- October-November: Emerging writers sepcial. Fiction, non-fiction from emerging writers.
- December-January: Writing Each Other – own voices, writing beyond experience etc.
To apply, you can submit short stories, poems, creative non-fiction or non-fiction works up to 2000 words. 150-word pitches will also be considered.

- A 50-word bio.
- A short statement about the piece.
- Your piece/pitch.
