"I would offer two tips to any writer; aspiring or ‘widely published’," says tutor Tony Birch. "Most importantly, never rush the writing, from the first words on the page to a final edit. Good writing takes the time it needs to be clearly heard. Secondly, whenever possible, write in your socks, or bare feet when the weather permits."

Tony Birch is the author of 6 works of fiction; the novels Shadowboxing (2006), Blood (2011) and Ghost River (2015), and the short story collections, Father’s Day (2009), The Promise (2014) and Common People (2017). He is currently a senior research fellow at Victoria University.

Tony is teaching a workshop on Short Story in October 2017.
