Literary journals present both opportunities and development for writers: with shorter turnarounds, shorter word lengths, and broader scopes, many writers not only get their start writing for literary mags, but continue to do so to share their thoughts and experiences. Find out all about the ins-and-outs of literary journals, including how to submit, what to expect, and even how to participate through an extended Q&A session with our star-studded panel.

This evening will be run as a Q&A session and participants will be invited to submit their questions before and during the seminar.

About Adalya Nash Hussein
Adalya Nash Hussein is a writer and editor. Her work has appeared in Voiceworks, The Lifted Brow, Ibis House, Meanjin and Going Down Swinging. She has been an Emerging Writers’ Festival Melbourne Recital Centre Writer in Residence, a Wheeler Centre Hot Desk Fellow, and shortlisted for the Scribe Nonfiction Prize. She is the editor of Voiceworks and a co-editor at Liminal.
About Anna Spargo-Ryan
Anna Spargo-Ryan is the author of two novels, The Gulf and The Paper House. She was the inaugural winner of the Horne Prize and is the nonfiction editor of ISLAND Magazine. Her new book, a memoir about mental illness and trauma recovery, will be published by Picador in 2021.
About Evelyn Araluen
Evelyn Araluen is Co-Editor of Overland Literary Journal, as well as a poet, educator and researcher. Her debut poetry collection DROPBEAR is published by the University of Queensland Press. Born and raised in Dharug country, she is a descendant of the Bundjalung nation.
About Leah Jing McIntosh
Leah Jing McIntosh is the founding editor of Liminal magazine. Founded in 2016, Liminal is a platform that publishes interviews, writing and art by Asian-Australian creatives. In 2019, Leah established the inaugural Liminal Fiction Prize for Writers of Colour. In 2020, she edited Collisions (Pantera Press), a collection of genre-bending, lucid fictions of the future.
