With so many publishing options open to writers, it can be really confusing to navigate how to get your work out there. This workshop will help define predatory publishing and identify red flags so you can make informed decisions about your manuscript.

This seminar will take place online. Detailed instructions for participation will be provided. Lunchtime Bites sessions are free for members, but places are limited. Please book quickly.

You will learn: 

  • The difference between commercial publishing, predatory publishing, supported independent publishing, and self-publishing
  • How to identify which type of publishing you are interested in
  • How to identify predatory publishers before it’s too late
  • When you can be expected to contribute money towards your publication and when you shouldn’t

About Kate Cuthbert

Kate Cuthbert is Program & Partnerships Manager at Writers Victoria. Previously, she worked for over a decade in trade publishing, notably initiating Harlequin Australia’s Escape Publishing imprint, and serving as managing editor for seven years. She is an award-winning book reviewer and critic, and is pursuing a PhD examining Australian popular fiction.
