ONLINE WORKSHOP: Pitches, Query Letters, and Synopses

Date:

With:

Anna Snoekstra

Rating:

EARLY, EMERGING

Summary:

Pitches, query letters, and synopses are essential to the business of writing, regardless of where you’re at in your career. But the problem is not every writer knows what makes a good pitch, and what makes a not-so-good pitch. What’s too long? What’s too short? Is this a story? Querying and pitching can raise a billion questions that leave us all feeling deflated and daunting. However, the truth of pitches, query letters, and synopses is that they’re super straight forward, once you know what you’re doing. This workshop will tell you everything you need to know.

Details

In this session, you will learn:

  • What a pitch, query letter, and synopsis should look like: what to include and what to not include

  • The importance of length and why less is always more

  • What makes an idea and what makes a story

  • The art of the follow up (and why you should always follow up)

  • The other side. What an editor is looking for and the best time to pitch

Please bring along a very rough draft of a synopsis of your current work - maximum one page. You will work on this during the course of the workshop.
