Creative nonfiction writing allows writers to delve deeply into their chosen topics—it lets you follow your obsessions into research rabbit-holes, and wherever else they may lead. In this one-hour session, Caitlin will explore some unconventional ways to research your essay and nonfiction writing.

This workshop will take place online. Full details for participation will be provided.

You will learn:

• How to find, follow and use your own obsessions in your writing

• A repertoire of ways to record and organise your weird research findings

• About various research methods used by different essay and nonfiction writers

• What ‘ferrocryptomungite’ means, and how it can be useful to your writing

• How essay writing can operate as a creative research practice of its own

 

About Caitlin McGregor

Caitlin is a neurodivergent essayist, editor, and critic, living on unceded Jaara land. They hold a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing and English & Theatre Studies from the University of Melbourne, and their writing has appeared in a range of publications, including Overland, Kill Your Darlings, The Big Issue, The Guardian, Meanjin, Going Down Swinging, and Voiceworks.
