Do you have an idea for a play? Curious about playwriting and not sure where to start? Or are you already writing plays but keen for some fresh tips and insights? This course will provide you with a toolkit for playwriting including information about structure, dialogue and character, and advice about how to write a first draft and the re-drafting process.Details
This workshop will take place online. Detailed instructions for participation will be provided.
You will learn:
- Various approaches to structuring plays
- What dramatic writing is and how it differs from prose writing
- Basics of dramatic dialogue
- Basics of compelling dramatic characters
- Insights into post-dramatic and experimental forms
Please bring along a scene and/or a synopsis of your work in progress, if you have one. But this isn’t necessary for the course.
About Emilie Collyer
Emilie Collyer lives on Wurundjeri land where she writes poetry, plays and prose. Award-winning plays include Contest, Dream Home and The Good Girl which has had multiple international productions. Emilie’s plays have won and been nominated for many awards including the Theatre503 International Playwriting Award (London), Queensland Premier’s Drama Award, Green Room Awards, George Fairfax and Patrick White Playwright’s Award (twice), most recently this year for The Grateful Shade.
