In this workshop we’ll learn how to write short or book-long essays about things that matter to us deeply – be these significant events from our lives or lives of other people, or explorations of issues we are passionate about – while engaging and moving our audiences. We’ll look at how to create a sense of intimacy with readers, how to write persuasively and also ethically, and how to turn ourselves and others into compelling characters and narrators.

This workshop will take place online. Detailed instructions for participation will be provided.

You will learn:

  • about the genre of personal essay
  • how to develop engaging and persuasive essayistic voice
  • how to structure our works
  • about the ethics of telling true stories
  • how to turn real people into interesting characters
