Detailed feedback will demonstrate how to structure and edit your feature, from the opening hook to the satisfactory conclusion.

Stories of up to 1,500 words due midnight Wednesdays 20 July, 17 August, 21 September, 19 October and 16 November.

You will learn

• the challenges of editing both long form and short copy to size 
• about finding an angle that makes your feature stand out
• about avoiding clichéd language and ideas 
• interviewing techniques and how to use quotes effectively 
• about pitching to publications, when to follow up and what fee to expect.

This workshop develops employment-related skills.

About Jenny Valentish

Jenny Valentish has been the editor of ‘Time Out Melbourne’ and ‘Triple J Magazine’. She has written for women’s titles – ‘Cleo’, ‘ELLE’, ‘Frankie’, ‘Marie Claire’ and ‘Yen’ – and men’s titles – ‘Ralph’ and ‘Men’s Style’ –  as well as ‘The Big Issue’ and ‘The Monthly’. She regularly contributes to ‘The Age’, ‘The Sydney Morning Herald’ and ‘The Saturday Paper’. She is the author of novel ‘Cherry Bomb’ and a forthcoming non-fiction book.
