Details

With thousands of books available every year, making yours stand out from the crowd is more important than ever. Luckily, securing free coverage of your book in the media requires little more than your time, a few free copies and a great plan. The Do-It-Yourself Book Publicity course is a practical, hands-on course that will give you the tools to plan and execute your own publicity campaign. The course is designed for self-published authors as well as writers with traditional publishing deals who want to supplement the work of their in-house publicist. Attendees will also receive a copy of 'The DIY Book PR Guide'.

Participants will leave the course with:

  • A basic media release;
  • An "elevator pitch": a simple and succinct description of what your book is about;
  • A media hit-list framework;
  • A few angles (ideas to pitch to journalists);
  • A publicity campaign plan outline.

About the presenter

Emma Noble is the director of Noble Words Book Publicity (www.noblewords.com.au). She has worked for nearly twenty years with publishers and self-published authors, and on industry events like the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, the Australian Book Industry Awards and the Sydney Writers’ Festival. 'The DIY Book PR Guide' is her first book.

Participant requirements

Participants will need laptops or tablets with word processing and web browsing capabilities, in order to engage in practical activities like writing a media release, compiling a media database and using the internet for research. (Microsoft Office programs – Word, Excel etc – or equivalent are recommended.)

Participants will be required to complete a questionnaire, which will be sent prior to the course start date.

The Australian Society of Authors have made some places available for Writers Victoria members at ASA member rates. For more information or to book, go to the ASA website.
