You have a story to tell, or ideas for stories, from your own life or elsewhere. But what is the best way to tell it, and to structure and craft it? Fiction or non-fiction? Novel or memoir, autobiography or short story? There are techniques common to all genres. The key is an understanding of the true meaning of imagination and the art of scene construction. Workshop will include talks, discussion, feedback and writing exercises. This tour is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria and presented in association with Geelong Writers.

You will learn:

  • How to discover the best way to tell your story
  • How to construct scenes, and how to move from scene to scene
  • Ways of writing place and character
  • How to approach structure: the interplay between spontaneity and planning
  • The deeper meaning of imagination, whether writing fiction or non-fiction.
