Every story begins with a messy first draft. This beginners clinic is a constructive and supportive environment that will help you identify the strengths and weaknesses of your story, learn the elements of your craft and provide direction for your next draft. Receive direct feedback from your tutor and fellow course participants with this online writing group for those just starting out in short story writing.

Stories of up to 1500 words due midnight Wednesdays 30 August, 27 September, 25 October, 15 November, 6 December.

You will learn

  • what makes a short story work
  • how to find your story’s thread
  • characterisation and point of view
  • story structure
  • the art of constructive feedback.
