You’ll receive direct feedback from your tutor and fellow course participants on your writing. Cover all the essential novel-writing tools – research, refining ideas, genres, setting, writing craft (POV, show don’t tell, dialogue and more), character development and a variety of plot tools to help you structure your story. Theoretical components will be taught in conjunction with practical exercises and you’ll also be given feedback on your work to make your writing and novel stronger.

Submissions of up to 3,000 words due midnight Wednesdays 26 July, 23 August, 27 September, 25 October

Webinars: Mondays 19 June, 17 July, 21 August, 18 September, 16 October, 20 November 6-7.30pm

  • How to develop tools to help you generate new story ideas
  • A greater understanding of different points of view and narrative distance in creative writing
  • How to improve ‘general’ writing skills
  • About tools to create believable and engaging characters
  • Different plotting techniques and how to use them in your writing

About Phillipa (PD) Martin

Phillipa (PD) Martin is the author of five crime fiction novels published in 13 countries. Her Sophie Anderson series — ‘Body Count’, ‘The Murderers’ Club’, ‘Fan Mail’, ‘The Killing Hands’ and ‘Kiss of Death’ — met with international acclaim. In 2011 she moved into ebooks, releasing ‘Coming Home’, ‘Hell’s Fury’ and two novels for younger readers. She’s currently working on a drama with a mystery twist and studying for her PhD in Creative Writing.
