Whether it’s a picture book, middle grade fiction or young adult novel, authors have the ability to encourage children to discover the types of adults they want to become.

Discover how kids’ books can discuss important social issues while still maintaining the ability to delight, engage and entertain.

You will learn

  • how to find your voice and the voice of your characters
  • how to approach writing about serious social issues for children
  • different approaches to writing for children
  • how to generate ideas and solve plot problems
  • approaches to effective editing

About Zana Fraillon

Zana Fraillon is the author of eight books for children, including picture books, middle grade fiction and a young adult novel. Her latest book ‘The Bone Sparrow’ is about a young boy growing up in indefinite detention in an Australian detention centre, which has been which has been shortlisted for the international Guardian Children’s Fiction prize and the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards 2017.
