Words in Winter
Words in Winter is a not-for-profit festival celebrating words, stories and ideas in all their forms. It's for locals and visitors, with both local and visiting presenters, and includes events in writing, readings, poetry, theatre, music, talks, workshops, visiting authors, and exhibitions.

Founded by David Hall in 2002, Words in Winter has grown from being a Daylesford-only event into an annual literary and arts festival. Held in August each year it is one of the broadest festivals in the Hepburn Shire region.

This year’s month-long programme includes writing, music, imagery and entertainment. There are events for adults and events kids, and writing competitions too to bring you the opportunity to sharpen your pencils (actual or digital), and share your words:

  • The Ellen Kemp Memorial Prize for short story – up to 3000 words on the theme of Silence, with a prize of $300.
  • The RedBeard Bakery Microfiction 50 word story – with a prize of a $200 RedBeard voucher
  • The Bush Poetry Bruce McKenzie Award and performance event for bush poetry – with a prize of a book voucher from Dr B’s Bookstore
  • The Cath Pye Memorial Prize and performance event for contemporary poetry – with a prize of $100.00

So, get involved, have a go, join in the fun!
