Summary:

Whether you are writing a sex scene or just writing about someone brushing their teeth, your writing can be lifted from the mundane into something that is an immersive, sensual, whole-body experience. Through a series of exercises, activities, discussions and readings, this workshop will equip you with tools that will help you to see and describe your literary world in a more sensual light.

Details

This masterclass is for established writers only: that is, writers who have had at least one book or short story collection published by a mainstream publisher or a significant publication history in literary journals or similar publication. Writers should also have a substantial project in the early- to mid-stages of development. 

You will learn:

  • How to approach a sex scene.
  • How to perceive the world as a full-bodied experience
  • How to bring that sensual perception into your writing.
  • How to use other art forms to stimulate sensuality in your writing
  • How controlled use of sensual writing can provide texture to a longer work

This workshop will be run on the Zoom platform and participants will be emailed instructions on how to participate ahead of the course. 

About Krissy Kneen

Krissy Kneen is the author of the best-selling memoir Affection, the novels Steeplechase, Triptych, The Adventures of Holly White and the Incredible Sex Machine, and the Thomas Shapcott Award winning poetry collection Eating My Grandmotherand An Uncertain Grace, shortlisted for the Stella Prize, the Norma K Hemming Award and the Aurealis awards. Wintering, her latest novel has been longlisted for the Colin Roderick Award and shortlisted for the Davitt Award. She is currently developing a TV series, Dear Sexy with the Stan/Screen Queensland Rising Development fund and a feature film for SBS and Madman Entertainment. Krissy has previously written and directed broadcast television documentaries with SBS and ABC TV.
