Sex scenes are hard to write because they have all the same challenges as other fictional scenes, plus additional complexities. Will readers laugh? What will my parents think? In this post-Fifty Shades world, authentic and moving sex scenes are more important than ever because of their unequalled ability to reveal character. If your fiction is about yearning, fear, pain, hope, vulnerability, power or loneliness—a beautiful sex scene will make your story better.

Please note: This workshop will be Auslan interpreted

You will learn:

  • The similarities between writing sex and writing action
  • The differences between sex scenes and erotica
  • How to move beyond the male gaze
  • How sex, sexuality and gender influence character in fiction
  • How to overcome insecurity around writing sex
