Details

Cover a range of areas beginning writers generally find difficult - characterization, pacing, dialogue, and control over imagery and immediacy. With an emphasis on encouraging a distinctive voice and locating and developing compelling subject‐matter, the workshop is designed particularly for tentative or discouraged writers who want to go home re-energised and with a new respect for their own ideas and their capacity.

You will learn:

  • How structure can serve you, and your story
  • how to write ‘scenically’ to give your work immediacy and vividness
  • how to engage a reader through implicit rather than explicit description
  • how to avoid flatness and lack of pace
  • why rendering dramatic action is a skill worth practising.

This tour is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria and presented in association with Portarlington Neighbourhood House.
