This workshop will take you through the key stages of writing a page-turning fantasy, from coming up with ideas, through plotting, to final manuscript and publication. It will offer practical techniques, breaking down some of the most successful methods used in popular fantasy. Tackle your project through a combination of webinars and submissions of your own work
You’ll receive direct feedback from your tutor and fellow course participants on your writing. Theoretical components will be taught in conjunction with practical exercises and you’ll also be given feedback on your work to make your writing stronger.

Webinars: Mondays 15 January, 5 February, 5 March, Tuesday 3 April, Mondays 7 May and 4 June, 6-7.30pm

Submissions of 3,000 words due midnight Wednesdays 14 February, 14 March, 11 April and 16 May

You will learn

  • how to generate and refine ideas, including story, world building and characters
  • key plot, story and structure techniques for fantasy novels
  • effective pacing and exposition strategies
  • how fantasy writers create and control reader immersion
  • what to do next: the first steps in publishing your fantasy.

Tasmanian Writers Centre members are welcome to book in at the member rate.

About C.S. Pacat
