One of the most important is characterisation, which in turn shapes plot, point of view, voice, conflict and the words on the page. This course for beginners will explore each of these elements and help you have a better understanding of what they are, their role in a story and how to connect the pieces.

When: Sundays 4, 11, 18 and 25 March, 10am-1pm each day

You will learn

• the elements that make a story/narrative work
• the importance of characterisation and creating a three-dimensional character with a strong voice
• about point of view and how to find the best one to tell your story
• to understand plot, as well as the difference between internal and external conflict
• about the words on the page and how to bring the narrative to life.

Demet Divaroren is a Melbourne-based writer, editor and creative writing teacher. Her writing has appeared in Griffith REVIEW, Island magazine, The Age Epicure, The Big Issue and From the Outer.
