Internal conflict is what defines literary fiction as a genre. In this workshop we will explore different kinds of conflict, and how conflict drives narrative in literary fiction.

We will look at how to establish a central conflict in your writing and how to make it meaningful and compelling. This workshop will consist of textual analysis, discussion, writing exercises and feedback.

You will learn

  • How to establish the central conflict in your narrative
  • how to develop your characters through conflict
  • writing compelling internal conflict
  • how to use conflict to create dramatic tension in your writing
  • how to create satisfying resolutions.

About Marija Pericic

Marija Peričić is a writer based in Melbourne. Her first novel, 'The Lost Pages', won The Australian/Vogel's Literary Award 2017. Her work has also appeared in 'Going Down Swinging' and the 'Southerly' blog. Marija was born in Perth, Western Australia.  She studied English Literature at The University of Western Australia and The University of Melbourne and teaches English Language at Deakin University.
