Details

The Writing Group will meet monthly at the Kathleen Syme Library in Carlton, providing free access to support and professional development for writers with disability in the place where they live.

Participants in the groups will come together to share their work, develop their writing skills and build creative, professional and social connectedness in the City of Melbourne. Writers Victoria will also work with these writers to develop and present public events, as well as commissioning and publishing their writing.

The Kathleen Syme Library Writing Group will meet Wednesdays, from 10am–12pm, on the following dates:

  • 9 March 2022
  • 13 April 2022
  • 11 May 2022
  • 8 June 2022
  • 13 July 2022
  • 10 August 2022
  • 14 September 2022
  • 12 October 2022

Please note that registration preference will be given to those who live in the City of Melbourne LGA.

About Jax Jacki Brown

Jax Jacki Brown (they/them) is a disability and LGBTIQA+ rights activist, writer, and educator.

Jax’s work has been published in 'Queer Disability Antholog'y (2015), 'QueerStories: Reflections on Lives Well Lived from Some of Australia’s Finest LGBTIQA+ Writers' (2018), 'Kindred: 12 Queer #LoveOzYA Stories' (2019), 'Growing up Queer in Australia' (2019) and 'We've Got This: Stories by Disabled Parents' (2022). They are interested in how we can build resilience, pride and community for LGBTIQA+ disabled people and are passionate about intersectional equality.
