Let’s Talk About… Adapting Work for Film and TV

Date:

With:

Graeme Simsion and Sneha Lees

Rating:

ALL

Summary:

Often, when writers tell people they’re publishing a book or article, the first question is “who’ll play you in the movie?” (Even if it’s fiction!) The film and television industries, however, are fairly opaque to most writers. In this session, you’ll receive insight on options, adaptations and production companies, along with responses to the frequent question of whether to write your own screenplay or allow somebody else to change things.

About the Panellists:

Graeme Simsion’s debut novel, The Rosie Project, originally written as a screenplay, has sold over 6 million copies in forty languages and is in development with Sony Pictures. The Best of Adam Sharp is in development with Toni Collette’s Vocab films and Two Steps Forward (written with partner Anne Buist) was optioned to Disney. His novella, Creative Differences, is in development with local producer, Truce Films, with Graeme writing the screenplay. The Glass House (also with Anne Buist, to be published March 2024) was conceived as a TV series and has attracted much more attention from producers since it’s been accepted as a book.

Sneha Lees recently completed her Graduate Certificate in Creative Business (21st Century Screen Production) from The Compton School, University of Canberra. Her book, Good Indian Daughter, was published by Affirm Press in May 2021, under the pseudonym Ruhi Lee. In 2021, Sneha began studying Acting at The National Theatre, Melbourne and is continuing her training at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). In 2022, she was commissioned by South Asian Today to direct and produce her first short documentary. She is currently working on a new novel and a screenplay.
