WV General Manager

Writers Victoria is looking for an experienced general manager to work alongside our Director to oversee the organisation’s team and operations.

Details

  • Duration: August/September 2016 to December 2020 (with potential to extend)
  • Hours: This position is available either full time (38 hours per week) or 0.8 EFT part time (30.5 hours per week), includes some evenings and weekends
  • Salary: $68,000 (or pro rata equivalent) pa plus mandatory superannuation
  • Reports to: Director
  • Responsible for: Membership Officer, Admin Officer, casual staff, volunteers and interns

Duties

Leadership, Office Management and Administration

  • Support and inform the organisation’s strategic, financial and business plans in conjunction with the Director and Committee of Management
  • Manage and maintain day-to-day Writers Victoria staff, office activity and systems
  • Recruit, train and manage administration, membership and casual staff, volunteers and interns
  • Maintain electronic and hard-copy filing systems
  • Contribute to staff meetings and strategic planning sessions
  • Additional duties as required.

Finance

  • Support the Director and Finance Subcommittee, including provision of monthly reports for the Committee of Management, supporting development of annual budget and recut budget and provision of timeline advice on financial issues.
  • Support the Director in the preparation of funding applications and acquittals.
  • Oversee all Financial Operations including:
    • Accounts Receivable and Payable
    • Petty Cash
    • Payroll
    • Banking, including reconciliations, managing term deposits and cash flow
    • Superannuation payments
    • Staff leave records
  • Preparation of statutory returns:
    • Preparation and submission of BAS and PAYG statements
    • Prepare annual finance for auditor
  • Manage and pay ongoing policies such as insurance, WorkCover etc
  • Report to statutory bodies such as ROCO, CAV and ACNC.

Member Services

  • Oversee management and maintenance of membership applications and renewals.
  • Effectively use CRM to manage memberships, research and segment membership data.
  • Develop and deliver campaigns and initiatives for membership retention and growth (including information stalls, presentations and partnerships).
  • Oversee management and delivery of information, advice and guidance in response to member enquiries.
  • Oversee room bookings for members.
  • Oversee upkeep of the Writers Victoria library.

Program and Services

  • Oversee the development, marketing and administration of a range of member services and special projects (including free member events, writers’ studios, competitions, fellowships and other special projects).

Marketing and Sales

  • Support retention and growth of Writers Victoria membership.
  • Maximise earned income from membership activities (including renewals, individual giving campaigns and donations).
  • Help extend the Writers Victoria community on- and offline.

Selection criteria

  • Excellent financial management skills, including budgeting and fiscal control.
  • Advanced Xero and/or bookkeeping skills using accrual based accounting.
  • High level of Excel proficiency.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a small team within a busy, multi-tasking environment.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of the not for profit sector and issues facing medium-sized arts organisations in Australia.
  • Familiarity with the Victorian and Australian literature sector.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
