Words in Winter is a not-for-profit annual occasion bringing accessible, low cost, literary happenings to Hepburn Shire and surrounding region. Running through August, each town delivers their own events and programmes. The information here is for the Trentham programme. This year’s theme is ‘Origins’. Trentham’s Competitions (All competitions are judged blind, and all have an entry fee for non-local entrants.) 1. Ellen Kemp Memorial Short Story Prize – 3000 word limit, Prize – $500 prize 2. Ellen Kemp under 18s – 1500 word limit, Three prizes in age categories – $100 secondary school; $50 upper primary; $50 lower primary 3. Contemporary Poetry – 40 line limit, up to 3 entries. Prize – $100, plus guest poet spot at Chamber Poets, plus door takings 4. Bush Poetry – two sections; Original Poetry $200 prize and Performance poetry. 5.
